A luxurious cottage in the country awaits you just 30 minutes from Greenville. Situated on the highest point of 120 acres just outside of Landrum, The Red Horse Inn offers captivating views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and an experience like no other.
“This is a special, almost spiritual place,” says Mary Wolters, who owns The Red Horse Inn with her husband, Roger.
For all this natural, rural beauty, you are hardly required to rough it during your stay.
The property includes six free-standing private spacious cottages as well as comfortable rooms in the main house. All of the cottages feature gas fireplaces, fully-equipped kitchens, whirlpool tubs and pull-out sofa beds in the lofts. Cathedral ceilings and thoughtfully placed windows take full advantage of the natural light and offer plenty of stargazing opportunities at night.
Such modern amenities as televisions and DVD players are also provided and wireless Internet is available in the main inn. Three of the cottages offer private outdoor spa tubs.
Named for Mary’s thoroughbred Winston who passed away more than 13 years ago, The Red Horse Inn is now home to an American thoroughbred name Secret, the great granddaughter of notable Triple Crown champ Secretariat. On any given day, you can find Mary training Secret and watch her using the Natural Horsemanship techniques.
“There’s something so peaceful about the inn’s natural surroundings,” says Kelly Baird, a Greenville wellness coach. “The cottages are so private and ideal for someone who needs to escape for a little creative thinking time and solitude.”
Soak in the serenity and crisp air of the mountains on your cottage terrace while reading, relaxing or sipping — which promptly become the daily rituals of your stay.
“Sometimes just traveling to our vacation destination is stressful,” Baird says. “Our family spends an inordinate amount of time by plane, train and then rental car just trying to reach a quiet cottage in the country of England. The journey to The Red Horse Inn is stress-free — just over 30 minutes away from Greenville. That means more uninterrupted time to relax, recharge and unwind with my family. I can’t believe we have such a wonderful place to escape so close to Greenville.”
Wolters says sleeping in is a must so breakfast in bed is provided — a fresh made breakfast basket filled with such goodies as seasonal watermelon with mint, homemade egg casserole, fresh fruit parfaits and muffins.
“I want guests to be surprised and feel like they are getting more than expected,” Wolters says.
The cottages are so comfortable it is difficult to leave. For this reason, guests may opt to order a special meal served inside their cottage or cook in the cottage’s well-appointed kitchen. For those who want to venture out, the inn provides a number of local dining recommendations in nearby Landrum as well as recommendations for hiking, wine tours and excursions to historic landmarks, antique shops and boutiques.
The large dining room and conference room in the elegant main inn can be reserved for special events, weddings and conferences.
